A 5 day Look at What Trump Means for Homelessness: Day 2

The Criminalization of Homelessness...

Many homeless are faced with the criminal justice system simply because they're homeless. This is inhumane! It's also expensive and makes it even more difficult for the homeless to get into a proper home. Over the past two years under Obama we've made important steps towards working against the criminalization of homelessness:
  • In 2015 Bell v. Boise argued homeless people shouldn't be punished for sleeping in public when they have nowhere else to sleep.
  • Throughout 2015 – 2016 HUD incentivized constructive, non-criminalization responses to homelessness. The U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness have released important guidance in moving away from criminalization.

Trump’s nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions for U.S. Attorney General isn't good for these efforts. He isn't an opponent of criminal justice reform.
This is certain to happen with Trump in office. When he does, we're sure to witness more homeless people going to jail...
